Super place, lovely clean and warm. See you again.
Welcome to Ty Gwyn Farm
Ty Gwyn is an ideal base from which to explore this hidden, unspoilt area of Mid Wales. The beautiful Elan Valley, Builth Wells and Hay on Wye are all within easy reach. There are walks around the farm and plenty of footpaths and long distance walks in the area of Radnorshire and Llandrindod Wells. Watch the wildlife; we have red kites, buzzards, hares and badgers, enjoy clean air, open skies and absolute peace and quiet. From the farm there is easy access to the Victorian Spa town of Llandrindod Wells which still retains its magnificent buildings many of which surround the Temple Gardens. Within the town there are supermarkets, local food shops, a Victorian theatre, gift shops, coffee shops, restaurants and pubs. The 13 acre lake is a particular feature with a magnificent dragon fountain in the middle.
Ty Gwyn is in a truly beautiful location. As you drive down the lane, you can see the vast panorama of hills spread out before you. Once here, there is a total peace and quiet, no other properties can be seen and the sky is dark at night, so you can see the stars. The only sounds you may hear are the birds, the stream and the sounds of our livestock. The lane that comes to the farm is very quiet and does not really go anywhere so we only get about one car a day using it!

The ultimate get away
The Straw Cottage is truly far from the madding crowd, an off grid straw bale cottage in an idyllic spot on the farm. Wake up to the sound of birdsong, go to sleep to the sound of Holly Brook, breakfast outside with just the meadow flowers and the hills for company. This is the romance of a bygone era with modern comfort.
The ultimate get away
Granary Cottage sits in the quiet courtyard of Ty Gwyn Farm surrounded by 130 acres of our farm. Ty Gwyn is in a truly beautiful location. Driving down the lane, the vast panorama of hills is spread out before you. Once here, you will have total peace and quiet, no other houses can be seen, the sky is dark at night and yet we are only 2.5 miles from the Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells. Within the town there are local food shops, supermarkets, a Victorian theatre, coffee shops, restaurants and garages. The 13 acre lake is a particular feature with a magnificent dragon fountain in the middle.

Super place, lovely clean and warm. See you again.
Margot, what magic you have created here and how special to share that with others. We’ve had the most amazing weekend at The Straw Cottage. The grounds are like something from a fairy tale and we loved the sights on the walk into town. The Elan Valley was out of this world beautiful and we have loved every minute of our quality time together away from the outside world. Evenings by candlelight, red wine, monopoly and a roaring fire was every bit as romantic as we could have wished for. Can’t wait to come and stay again.
Just what the doctor ordered! So wonderful to be away from the hustle and bustle of life!! Straw Cottage made us sit back and just enjoy. Fabulous farm walks, loved Elan Valley and its stunning views. Lucky with the weather too 23degrees in October. who would have thought! Lovely to meet you Margot – thanks for the thoughtful things in the cottage – we will bring our friends next time!
We’ve had a wonderful stay at Straw Cottage. What a fantastic way to slow down and spend quality family time. We loved going on muddy walks, feeding the swans and geese at the lake (where they do the best ice creams and coffee) playing games, baking, star gazing and cozying up by the fire. Thank you. Rachel, Rob, Isla, Lexi and Benji (the dog)
What a fabulous cottage. We spent 3 magical days as a family of four – our first as a family of four! We enjoyed the cosy fire, stargazing and spending some quality time together. We will remember this holiday very fondly. Many thanks.
Beautiful, cosy cottage to call home while visiting my dad. Beautiful views and trails and such hospitable hosts, we’ve felt so welcomed. Will definitely be back! Thank you!
We were in dire need of a massive switch off from everyday life – and thankfully that’s exactly what we found at the wonderful Straw Cottage! The farm is beautiful and Gigi enjoyed running around! We visited the Elan Valley, Mach loop, Devils Bridge and finally the stunning mountains at Snowdonia. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful cottage.
As ever, comfortable and in a perfect location for our return visit. Many thanks
An enjoyable stay as always in these beautiful surroundings.
Great place, Granary Cottage is lovely and clean. We will be back, thank you
We’ve loved our stay. Thank you so much, as always!
Friendly and welcoming. Lovely cottage and perfect base for our stay. Thank you Margot & Anthony
Absolutely beautiful!! We’ve had an amazing few days. It’s so peaceful here. We love the stream, the birds, the baby squirrels and the owls. It’s great to have a break from phones/screens.
Lovely, peaceful place to stay. Thank you
We loved our second stay here, almost feels like coming home. Hope to come another time.
Too amazing to put into words! Thanks Margot & Anthony
Our 2nd visit to Granary Cottage, we love the cottage and this beautiful area.
Had a great 3 night stay and thank you for having us. Jude has eaten all the ripe blackberries within a mile radius of the cottage! To be close to wildlife, nature and the trickling brook is a real treat that we will miss when we’re home. Thank you Anthony and Margot
We have had such a wonderful time at the Straw Cottage. Peaceful, relaxing and just what we were after. Hoping to return in the not too distant future. What a lovely part of the world.
Lovely cottage, beautiful area.
Had a lovely stay. We will definitely return.
What a fantastic place to spend Easter. The Easter bunny found us and hid eggs on Sunday. We enjoyed watching animals, seeing squirrels, lots of birds and the sheep with their spring lambs without ever having to leave the Straw Cottage. Cerys loved the box of toys and books, while the grown ups were lucky to have 2 clear nights to stargaze. We visited the Lake, Elan Valley and Erwood Station as well as Shaky Bridge. Thank you for your help re-lighting the boiler (when our common sense failed!) We loved our stay.
Lovely hideaway, great set up, had a lovely relaxing time. Thank you.
Another fab week with you and boy great weather this time! Thanks very much both.
What an excellent find! Such a beautiful and idyllic place to finish our holiday. Being completely immersed in nature (off the grid) has been so good for the kids, playing in the river to BBQs on the veranda to evenings of candlelit UNO, every day has been special. A little “UK summer weather” also didn’t get in the way, visiting Elan Valley, Brecon, Rhayader, Devils Bridge and an excellent 10Km walk from our doorstep. Thanks for having us and hope the next visitors enjoy it as much as we did.
Lovely spot, quiet and dark skies at night. Great retreat to unwind in. Comfortable beds.
We had such a wonderful time staying in the Straw Cottage. We will all feel completely refreshed. An owl came to greet us on the first morning, right outside the bathroom window, which was pretty special. We rode the pedalos on the lake, drove to the Elan Valley which was beautiful, had a day at the Show Caves and Dinosaur Park, all absolutely amazing. The landscape is so stunning here, the driving around is such a pleasure. Also had so much fun exploring the woods and fields nearby and the kids loved the treasure hunt! We wish we’d stayed an extra few days, feel sad to be leaving so soon.
We had a magical stay at Straw Cottage. Thank you! Everything was perfect. We can’t wait to return.
Beautiful cottage in a stunning setting. So peaceful and quiet. Lovely to see/hear the sheep, the birds and a hare! Thank you!
